Can I donate my Water Turtles to Petmart Or Petco.?

Because they r getting way too big plz help!!
Answers:
This seems to depend on the store. Some do not, some will hold them for others to adopt, some turn them over to a different animal welfare or rehab group, and some apparently (based on anonymous employee comments) seem to have them euthanized.
The trouble is that there really is not much of a market for adult animals. As you found, adult turtles take a lot of room and are not nearly as 'cute' as the babies, and there are a lot of animals that are routinely abandoned as adults- pythons, large lizards, pot belly pigs, etc.
Very few places have the money, space, staff, or resources to care for all of the adult animals that they get dumped on them, and they sometimes have to make some very hard choices.
Well if you got it from there i think you can Return it.
Petco probably would. PetSmart definitely no.
yes you can donate your turtles to petmart our petco. i know because i use to have a turtle then the tank start to smell really bad i gave the turtle back to petco and they kept the turtle.
You can also put them in the newspaper for sale
OR
Ask on here if anyone would like them
OR
Give them to the nearest animal shelter..But don't let them go in the wild as they will die
yes definitly in fact they said that if you had a turtle cat spider dog snake lizard bird and rodents!! so yes
You can give them back to either Petco or Petsmart as long as they are healthy. They probably won't give you a refund but they will find your turtles a good home!

Can I catch minnows ina near by creek then feed them to my baby Red Eared Slider Turtles?

Please answer
Answers:
with a net
yes you can because i do it all the time and my turtle love them!!
Yes you can, they will also eat baby perch, tad poles, and baby catfish if you can find them. I use to feed my turtles fish about twice a week just to keep them happy. They love them!
Thats usually fine
As long as the water the fish are living in is clean. Just because it LOOKS clean it doesnt mean it is. If the fish living in contaminated water they can hurt your turtles when they eat them.
I dont recommend feeding wild caught insects or fish. There is a big chance that they have parasites that will be passed on to the turtle.
Yes they love minnows, rosy minnows. You can if it looks like a "healthy" environment--the lake, stream, or pond. You do need to be careful of parasites. But even ones from pet stores can have parasites %26 infect your turtles. So its your choice. I buy mine usually from a pet store nearby. On occasion, yes we get them from apond. They love them. Also tadpoles, pond plants, live plants, Anacharis, water hyacinths, water lettuce are a few. The even eat snails too. Goldfish too but they are fatty %26 not a nutritious as the rosy minnows. Yep--go for it.
i did for my turtle but he just makes friends with fish. two goldfish i got for him to eat got to be bigger than him.
yes

Can i buy a heating lamp anywere for under 30$$$?

i need 1
Answers:
Absolutely.
Stay away from pet stores, and go to the Home Depot or Lowes
you could possibly use what is commonly known as a "trouble light" with a heat lamp bulb in it
Here is an excellent site on heating lamps. I can see a lot are 10-20$. They look very good.
http://www.become.com/shop?q=heating+lam...
you can buy heat lamps for like 10$
I bought a heat lamp at Home Depot for $15.
You can get a stainless dome light fixture from Walmart/Lowes for about $5-10 (with clamp and cord with switch) and put a regular, 100-watt household bulb in there. A 100-watt bulb will give you temps around 110 degrees from about 18 inches away, use a smaller bulb or move the lamp farther away if you need less heat, and always CHECK YOUR TEMPS.

Can i breed a female bearded dragon back to her father without having major birth problems?

Can hermit crabs live with any other animal?

we have 4 hermit crabs in a quite large tank. our children love the crabs but get a little bord as they do not do much during the day.we are wondering if we could put any thing else in there for the children to watch.like a lizard or something.the tank is the focal point of the room and 2 of the 4 crabs are under sand and i think molting.hopeing they didnt burry themselves to die.but we are just wondering if we can put anything else living in the tank with our hermies.thank you
Answers:
If you let other animals live with them then they wouldn't be hermits any more.
probably not
i think some animals would be ok but to be on the safe side, i would just get another tank .
When they die you can generally smell them before you see them...
As for other creatures. anything that doesn't eat crab, and requires similar conditions would probably be ok.
WHy don't you just buy more hermit crabs? I don't think that they would be able to live with anything else. Lizards and other reptiles would probably just eat them.
If it is a large tank get few more of them and that way you will have an interesting exhibit
Hermit crabs are special kind of crabs. They live in a shell. If you mix that with another animal;
1. It will fight
2. It will hide
3. It will die
So if you ask me about crabs... They are disgusting!!
Don't get hermit crabs and expect them to be fun. All hermit crabs do is stay in their shells all day, and occasionally move spots/positions. The answer is NO. You can not put a lizard in with a hermie. They require different foods and temperatures. If you want to get something more exiting for your kids, get a cat, dog, or guinea pig.
Here's a sites about all these pets:
Cats:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cat...
Dogs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/dog...
Guinea Pigs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/guinea_pig...
I'm not trying to be rude, but cats, dogs, and guinea pigs are MUCH better pets!
Hope this helps!
Good luck!
Most Lizards require temperatures that will kill a hermit crab. Hermit crabs cannot tolerate temperatures above 85 and lizards need 95 for basking. The answers before mine show a concern that the other animal will harm the hermit crab. There should also be a concern about the other animal being harmed by the hermit crabs. Hermit crab claws are formidable weapons, as anyone who has ever had a finger caught by one could testify.
Why don't you get a reptile waterfall (see links below) and some silk plants and make a little terrarium. Since hermit crabs require a minimum of 70% humidity to breath properly they will enjoy this as well.
http://www.reptilesupply.com/advanced_se...
No, not unless you want them eaten.
Well I think I mite have answer for your boring tank. I am pretty
sure that you shouldn't put a lizard in water tank, but what about water turtle. I have one at home and it way fun to look at home and it some thing different and new for guest to look at. I did some home work on it, but still not sure if it will work out or not.
Water turtle like to eat small fish and other animals that smaller that it, but on the other hand hermit crab can serve on in it shell and on it defense with it claws. Also hermit crab can eat algae and other debris from the water turtle, but the water turtle need a place on land to saulc in and not much heat is not need.
I am not sure if any this will work but give it a try.

Can Green Anoles Conceive with a Long Tail Lizard?

Answers:
OK liboby..you have answered the question about if they can co-exist. The question wasn't can they co-exist? It was can they conceive together? Has yours CONCEIVED yet? This is what da kid w would like to know.
yes they can what i did is i bought a cheap little case and put my green anole in the small cage then i left the long tail lizard in his cage and set them by each other to see how they reacted. and they where fine. my lizards are fine and they have been living for six months together.
From my knowledge, I don't think they can crossbreed together. I have two female brown anoles in a tank with one male green anole and they certainly don't do anything together. So no, I doubt you will be able to do such with an anole and a long tail lizard.
I'm not sure... to have two different lizards breed, you would need to ask a pet store about certain lizards breeding.
Good Luck

Can green anoles and house geckos eat rolly pollies (pill bugs)?

I was just wondering becuz I know your supposed to feed them different types of insects and i was just wondering if they are safe for my anoles to eat becuz it would be an easy thing for me to feed them becuz they are everywhere where i live
Answers:
i dont think there is much nutriten in them, they are basicaly all shell. try small pinhead crickets, wingless nats, and really small waxworms, but only about 1 or 2 the worms are pretty big!
I had an anole a couple of years ago and he was happy to eat crickets and nothing else.

Can Grasshoppers eat frog?

I bought one small frog an a red bellied toad not too long ago. A month ago I was sold small grasshoppers to feed them with. This was unknown to me because I thought they'd sold me crickets. They grew about 3 times they're original size within that month. I cleaned out the tank today an there was no sign of the frog or the toad. Could the grasshopper has eaten them?
Answers:
How many of them did you have in there? I suppose it is possible, but there would have been some skeleton remains. More likely he buried himself in the dirt, mud or rocks and got cleaned out with the tank,...next time take the grasshoppers back and say hey i wanted crickets.
your frog escaped
Yes, I'm afraid so, my daughter's first lizard ( not exotic) went this way.
You shouldn't leave the feeder animals in the tank - just put a couple in at feeding time.
Sounds like you need to change your toads name to Houdini after the great escape artist for his time.
It is possible, yes. But if you put them all in that tank at one time, that is the precise reason why. I keep my feeding crickets in their own tank where I breed them and take a few out to give to my lizards. I would really avoid grasshoppers though. Accident or not, they just jump everywhere, hit the sides of the container, make a lot of noise from collision, and they can fly a bunch. -_- I would just doing so.
However, if there is no sign of their remains (Such as bones) maybe they have escaped or hid under the ground.

Can Geckos Stand?

Answers:
no most lizards are not able to stand i think only one kind is
Yes geckos can stand both on hind and four legs. They usually only do this when they're trying to catch pray or just top have some fun.
they can, of course, sttand on all four legs, but they often also stand on their hind legs, against the glass of their tank, supported by their back tails.
if your's isnt standing on all four legs, and is just laying there, you might want to take it to the vet.
if it's laying there unmoving, with it's legs slayed out ackwardly behind him, he might be dead...
If you mean by standing on two legs, no. Niether when they catch food or have some fun. No lizard has strong bone muscles on their legs to make them stand. Not even the thrilling lizard (a lizard that can "walk" in water)

Can frogs eat other food instead of bugs?

i wanna get a frog or toad but i dont want to feed him live bugs or een dead bugs.. is there something else i can feed them?
Answers:
There are aquatic frogs that you may want to look into... like albino clawed frogs who can eat fish...
also, adult pacman frogs can eat pinkies (newborn mice), but not exclusively...
honestly, if you're squeamish about bugs, then frogs probably aren't the pet for you.
here's some sites that you may find helpful and/or just fun.
http://allaboutfrogs.org/
http://exoticpets.about.com/cs/frogsandt...
http://www.froggyville.com/index.php...
Frogs usually only eat live food. I can't feed my Poison Arrow frogs anything dead, they have to be live.
I've seen frogs drinking Buds, so maybe after a couple of them they eat a curry or go for a kebab.
unfortunately, many frogs are carnivores, and feed on live bugs (like mosquitoes and worms) and even small fish. only tadpoles are vegetarians =/. HOWEVER! frogs will normally eat frozen, freeze dried, sun dried, pellet, [and live] foods. you can feed him berries or sunflower seeds, etc., and he should eat it.
you never know what your own frog might like. you just need to feed him some healthy things and see. good luck!
If you cant handle the heat stay out of the kitchen!
If you cant feed a frog what it needs to eat dont get a frog. Dont get a reptile period if its because your squeamish about insects. Feeding my ball python 2 adult LIVE mice every week or two does not bother me at all, and i assure you it looks much worse than a frog eating a cricket. I also buy DOZENS of crickets every week to feed my 4 lizards, and i find it interesting to watch them eat.

Can cats killl snakes?

Answers:
A cat can kill just about anything that isn't too much larger than itself.
They have the instinct to seperate the first cervical vertebrae from the base of the skull to enable a quick kill.
Yes. They can hunt and kill snakes, but it is unlikely that a kitten would be able to and if the snake is poisonous they could get hurt badly.
yea i think so. what kind of snake
Yes cats are great hunters and great snake killers.
I'm unlikley a well-fed domestic house cat would. But in the wild definitly, unless the snake is posinous!
Probably a kitten wouldn't do it either.
Yes Cats can kill snakes. They will, if given the opportunity to, will play with them and in turn kill them. Just think about it cats like to play with string and other string like toys. A snake is just a giant string, and it will move by itself. My cat actually took my brothers snake out of the tank and played with it. We caught it in time to save the snakes life. He was pretty banged up though and it took a long time for him to heal.
Now if it is a poisenous snake the cat can be badly hurt.
absolutely!
yeah, they can hunt pretty well, my cats killed a rabbit once
yes, cats are hunters and they will hunt, but with a snake they have to be really alert as if the snake strkes first cat loses,
I guess it depends on what kind of snake it is. One of my cats killed and brought home a little bitty snake before.
yes, unless the snake is big enough to eat the cat
yep...it goes both ways...
cat can kill a snake... snake can kill a cat
A cat can kill a snake, they are very good hunters, but a domesticated pet one usually wouldn't, especially if it was a well fed one. The snake can also kill the cat, if it has venom. So if you have a pet cat, they the cat may kill the snake or the snake may kill the cat if it is venemous. Some pet cats will hunt down and kill a snake or bird even though it's not hungry, though.
what kind of snake, yes cats can
In one simple word... YES! Cats are carnivores, hunters, and aggressive, intelligent, creatures. They can and will kill snakes of all types.
depends what kind of snake it is ???

Can boas lay eggs without a mate?

Answers:
They can pass unfertilized ova which are called slugs. Boas don't actually lay eggs, they give birth to live young.
Boas are not egg layers, they are actually live-bearers (meaning they have live babies).
No... some snake have live babies these include boas and pythons...

Can baby snapping turtles pull their heads in? Can adults?

I found a turtle in a lake and would very much lime to keep him, but everyone thinks he is a Snapper. I always thought snappers couldn't pull their heads in their shells, and this one did. Anyone know if snappers can pull their heads in while they are babies?
Answers:
Yes they can, I have a baby snapping turtle.
of course they can pull their heads in...as for keeping this beauty, quite frankly you have no idea what species you have, nor do you know if its legal to privately own, nor do you know anything about he environment it requires to sustain a healthy natural lifestyle it requires for its life, liberty and pursuit of happiness...so perhaps you should be asking "SHOULD you keep this animal away from its loved home and family? Or perhaps you will realize that your just selfishly denying the truth: Put the Turtle back in its pond.
Yes, they can, any turtle in that fact can. There is one special gift about a box turtle though they can completely close their body up in their shell just like a box. They can if they are a baby or not doesn't really matter. I would suggest putting him/her back in its pond/lake where you found it as Teri said. Unless of course it was a highly populated place where it has a higher risk of getting hit by a car or dieing, if so please return it to a less populated area where it will have a much longer happier life. You shouldn't keep it simply for these reasons. 1. If it is a snapping turtle they can get huge. big enough to eat one of your fingers. Most people cant afford to keep one. depending on what type of snapping turtle it is it could need almost a 10000 gallon tank which would be nearly impossible to take care of.2. It could be illegal in your state as well as others. and for other reasons. The best thing to do is to realise him/her and go to a pet store in state or out of state to buy one of your own. Hope this help, Good luck. :)
YES!

Can baby leopard geckos be fed just mealworms and some pinky mice when adults?

Answers:
the mealworms are fine and pinkies are good occassionally but not as a steady diet. also try crickets, just put enough crickets in there that your gecko can eat or will eat at one time and supervise while the crickets are in the tank because if left in there too long the crikets will bother the geckos and it's not healthy to your gecko.
go ahead and feed the geckos pinky mice but use the mealworms for fishing
REALLY THE BEST ANSWER IS TO GO TO A LIBRARY,OR LOOK ON LINE,OR JUST BUY A CHEAP BOOK,IT'S REALLY THAT SIMPLE,CONSIDERING ALL OF THE KNOWLEDGE BASES WE HAVE,I KNOW REPTILES,BUT AM NOT THAT KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT GECKOS.I THINK THE ADVICE WILL HELP.GOOD LUCK.
If it likes pinkies then by all means feed that to him or her Mealworms are OK but not as a steady diet. I would suggest going on line and just Google... Care of Leopard Geckos. You should get tons of information. Good Luck
Small crickets and mealworms are excellent food for baby leos. Forget the pinkies--they are too high in fat and can cause impactions. They aren't at all necessary.

Can baby frogs drown if I put too much water in the tank even though I have a basking area for them?

Answers:
No they can't. But it's best if you leave an area to wear they can get some light.
of course not, except if they don't float,
I would say no - if they do I'd say they must have slipped a rung on the evolutional ladder.

Can anyone ID this spider that bit me (PIC)?

I got bit by this kind of spider in my house a number of times, below is a link to a pic of the spider and the wounds it left on me: http://img175.imagevenue.com/img.php?ima...
Answers:
ewww..thats scary...see a doctor
probalbly a black widow. I hope u filled out ur will.
How big is the spider?
If it is tiny with very thin legs I would guess a brown recluse. If that is the case you should seek medical attention. Their bites can be very nasty.
If on the other hand it is a large spider with long thin legs then it may be a thin legged wolf spider. They are common in new construction. They like to hunt in grassy, open areas and tend to get "built in" when houses are constructed. They don't have a dangerous bite, but it would be extremely painful.
donno what it is. but be assured its not a black widow. probably just a common spider.
Looks like a recluse spider. If this isnt a joke, go to the doc. they can be fatal. If it is a joke...then i don't get it, but more power to ya.
im not sure but it could be a brown recluse i would go and get a checkup
What kind of website is that? Full of porn ads, disgusting, switch to photobucket. It's not a black widow though.
Looks lilke a brown recluse. If you really got bit, you need to get to the hospital. I used to work in surgery and have done many operations removing dead tissue from these bites. Not pretty.
That looks like a Brown Recluse you might want to have a doctor check that out those can be some bad bites if it is that.
do you live in a wooded area? if so it might be a brown recluse. that is what it looks like to me. granted i'm not an entomologist, but if that is really what your side looks like then i'd go to the doctor.
What area of the country do you live in? I dont think its a serious threat. Definitely not black widow. I dont think its a brown recluse becuase those are very non aggressive. It looks like the common "wolf" spiders Ive seen. How old is the bite in the image? You ought to capture it and take it to a university if you really want to know. Or email a biology prof maybe. Also, please stomp it next time so it will stop biting you!
looks like a huntsman
from looking at that picture there is a possibility that it could be a brown recluse spider but its hard to tell because it that picture there is a different color to it. but the bites dont look like that of a brown recluse. but you better see a doctor because if it was a brown recluse that bit you then your the wound will start to rot away your skin then your meat and muscle and itll get bigger and badder. go so a doctor and bring a picture if you have one.
omg that is a brown recluse you need to go see a doctor like now those things can kill a person if you dont get them treated soon enough!!
Looks like a brown recluse.. need to go to the doc asap
Okay, folks, if you don't know anything about spiders or spider bites, then don't send people into a panic because you've heard stories about brown recluses.
That is not a brown recluse. And the marks on his arm are not indicative of brown recluse bites.
The spider is likely a huntsman, though I question if those are in fact spider bites, at least from a huntsman. Huntsman spiders can bite, but they are a very fast species of spider and generally run away quickly when disturbed. These are the spiders they used in the movie "Arachnaphobia". Unless you actually saw the spider bite you, I'd think it likely that something else is to blame.
hi there
this isn't a black widow spider... black widows are black with a a red hour glass shape on it lower bady part.if u have the spider i would go to ur doctor with it in a pill bottle and ask him .
omg go to the damn doctor it looks like brown recluse i hope u already went to the ER
I actully know alot of people who were eating inside out from these spiders
hopefully a brown recluse - i think you would be mighty sick if it was a black widow which can be identified by the red hourglass shape on its back
Not a black widow or brown recluse. The brown recluse has a marking on its back shaped like a violin. Your spider doesn't have one. Don't worry.

Can anyone help me with my leopard gecko?

A month ago my boyfriend's daughter wanted a pet lizard. We took her to Petco and she picked out a leopard gecko. We really don't know much about them. We started out using sand and then started using some coconut shell stuff to lay down at the bottom of the aquarium. We changed out that stuff every other week. We bought her Zoo Med's can o' worms at the time we bought her. Then two weeks later we bought her crickets. 40 of them to be exact and she ate them all in a in about a day. I put some more of those can o' worms out for her to eat. She hasn't eaten though not for about 2 weeks. I think it's because the worms aren't live. Today I noticed she is pale and laying with her arms spread out. My boyfriend gets paid today and we are going to get more crickets. Does anyone have any advice on how to take better care of her? Like proper bedding, food, how often things should be done, vitamines, water and so on. Thank you.
Answers:
There's a good website that you can go to...
www.repticzone.com
In there, you will find forums and care sheets for any and ALL types of reptiles, including your leopard gecko.
Here's my advice...
DON'T put your leopard on ANY kind of loose substrate. My suggestion would be to use newspaper, paper towels, or a reptile carpet that can be purchased at most pet stores. Feeding: You should use calcium/vitamins every other day when feeding your leopard, because leopards, like most lizards, will suffer horribly without the proper calcium to maintain their bones. The easiest way I have found to do this is to put a lid (such as the lids off of coke bottles) full of calcium powder into the tank with the leopard and they will eat the calcium whenever they feel it necessary. I would also put some vitamin powder into a little plastic baggy and put the crickets in the baggy and shake it up to coat the crickets with the vitamins before feeding to my leopard. Also, leopards shed usually once every month-month and a half. This is why they look pale sometimes, and then sometimes they don't. They eat their shed, as well. (It's a natural thing... just as they would do in the wild to protect themselves from predators) Leopards do not like dead foods, so I would feed them a mix of crickets and silk worms or wax worms, both of which can be bought at a petstore such as Petsmart or Petco. You should clean the cage as often as possible, but do a thorough clean once a week to ensure that no bacteria or anything grows within the cage to cause your leopard to become sick. Offer fresh water daily as well.
I hope this helps you out!!
OK you should buy sand and you need a heat lamp because it is a cold blooded animal you got to buy the small kind of crickets because the female crickets have stingers and the bigger kind of crickets have stingers and will sting your leopard gecko in the mouth and will be come really sick and you also need to buy a water bowl and a rock so it can shed i hope that help you
Paper towels are the best bedding for leos. They can injest sand and the coconut fiber and will cause impaction.
They usually only eat things that move. She should be getting crickets every day, and they should be dusted with a calcium powder every other feeding. Crickets and feeder roaches are the best foods for them. Too many mealworms can cause impaction, as they cannot digest the hard outter shell. As for the person before me that said a large cricket can sting a leo, that is not true. The appendage on the rear of female crickets is for laying eggs.
She could be pale because she is getting ready to shed. They eat their skin when they shed, so you will only know she has shed when her colors are back to normal.
She will need fresh water everyday, and misting her at least once a day.
They are nocturnal, so a basking light is pointless. You need to have an undertank heater at one end of the tank. And provide a hide box on each end. You will also need to provide her a damp place for shedding.
Your probably right about the crickets being alive. Do you have a heat lamp on it. Reptiles have to have heat. Mainly just food water and HEAT.
I keep paper towels on the bottom of my Leo鈥檚 tanks. It is easy to clean (just take it all out and put fresh in) and they can't ingest it like sand. If your Leo is young, I do not recommend sand. Baby Leos are not that good with their aim yet, and will accidentally eat sand while catching prey which can lead to impaction which is most often deadly. Adults have this problem too. Just forget the sand and go with paper towels. Also provide a few dark hiding spots since they are nocturnal, and also provide a humid box with moss on the bottom of it (this will help when it's time for her to shed). Mine love the can o' worms and the can o' crickets. When you get ready to feed your Leo, dump some vitamin powder in a plastic baggie and then drop as much food as it will eat in a few minutes in with the powder and shake it up (kinda like shake n' bake), this will give her the vitamins she needs. I feed mine every other night and change the water EVERY day. If the water dish gets gross and slimy, put it in the dishwasher and it will get clean. Don't leave live crickets in with her. I did this once and a cricket bit my Leo鈥檚 tail while she was sleeping and gave her a pretty nasty wound. Enjoy your Leo! They are sooooo cute! =)
DUMP THE SAND!! It may cause her to consume grains when she feeds, and get impacted. If so, she can't pass a poop and she will need a vet immediately.
Use repti-carpet or plain newspapers instead. It is safer for her.
DO NOT USE HEAT ROCKS. They'll burn her skin.
Make her a moist hide. Put cotton balls or perlite in a Glad or margarine bowl with an entrance hole cut out. Get the inside nice and moist. She is probably getting ready to shed and what you see is old skin that needs to be moistened to come out. She'll eat it, and she'll be OK.
NEVER PUT SAND IN A LEOPARD GECKOS TANK!! they will eat bits of it and it clogs thier digestive track. also, you do need a heat pad and lamp, and some reptile carpet. to clean it, just put it in with the laundry or something like that. it says on the pack. what you need to do is every week, buy about 20 crickets. have a small little plastic "critter keeper" tank with half a potato in it for them feed on. feed the gecko a couple crickets EVERY OTHER DAY! and i would suggest takeing the gecko in a little container (with air holes!) to petco and talk to a reptile person. they rock.
Yes you need a heat source, and play sand is fine for leos, its like 4$ for a 50 lb. bag at any hardware store. They need a shallow dish of fresh water every day, 6-10 crickets twice a day, and every other day throw in like 5-10 baby meal worms in a dish. Buy a cricket care tank! They are life savers. They come with food trays for cricket food, which you should also buy because it puts vitamines right into your leo. Also dust the crickets in calcium powder every other day.
And Im sorry makala, but you are absolutley incorrect. Those are not stingers on crickets, the ones with "stingers" are females, and those are just tubes that they will use to lay eggs when they are ready. They are not stingers and will not hurt your lizard.

Can any body help me out how to get rid of lizard. But don't want to kill them.Just keep away from house.?

Answers:
i am assuming you are talking about geckos...you can't keep them away from your house, just accept them...they do the world a great service by eating harmful insects like mosquitoes and june bugs (gross!) we have several geckos and green anoles around our house, and i love them...they are completely harmless, and will at all costs avoid contact with you.
We get lots of young geckos this time of year (Texas) - I keep a small glass and a rectangular piece of thin cardboard so I can catch them and let them go outside.
Put the glass over them, and SLOWLY slide the cardboard underneath the glass. Give the lizard time to get up onto the cardboard, so you don't pinch feet or tails between the cardboard and the edge of the glass.
Pick up the cardboard and glass, take the lizard outside, set the cardboard and glass down, and lift the glass.
Personally, I would rather have the lizards around the outside of my house to keep the insect population down.

Can an Equadorian Hermit Crab live without Salt Water?

Or can it be weaned off of the water?
Answers:
No hermit crab can live withought salt water, not even a PP. They need the salts for when they are molting. Withought salt water your hermit crabs will die.
No Equadorian's require salt water as do all species of land hermit crabs. They use the salt in the marine salt water to expand their body and crack their exoskeleton when they molt. They also need the salt water for the salinity of their shell water.

Can alligators climb trees and like live there?

like if there is a tree over a river can they climb the tree and make their home there??
Answers:
NO...
No..but some time they try to..
.no. Who told you they could? Alligators are water creatures and need to be in the water most of the time to support their body weight, otherwise their organs would be crushed by the weight of their body.
What do you mean like live there?...As far as I know they do not act like big cats...
If the tree is way bent over, like almost horizontal, and the gator isn't very large, it could possibly climb it. I don't know why it would, though, that isn't their natural environment.
If you're phobic about gators falling or jumping out of trees on you, I wouldn't worry about it, I have never heard of it happening!
Snakes, though...that's a whole 'nother story!
Hah, it's ridiculous!! Alligators are massive creatures weighing 400 - 1000 kg, and they have very small legs that can hardly support their weight on ground, how can they climb trees? However, lizards as big as monitors can climb slanted trees.
no. if there is something they want in the tree it might face up the tree but it could never actually climb it.
Yes! They dangle their offspring over the heads of innocent canoers below an the little 'gaters' bite their heads off as they pass under the trees. Well, actually they don't bite their heads off cause the gaters are no larger than kittens.
However, they're closely related to the northern 'snow snake' that slithers beneath the snow and is white and rarely seen as you might imagine, but their deadly method of killing is dreadful to imagine whereas they wriggle into an unsuspecting campers sleeping bag and into the campers rectum and instantly freezing the poor innocent camper to death. A truely cold hearted snake!
Thanks
like....no
American Crocodiles sometimes, like, bask on fallen trees, but, like, as a rule, crocodilians don't, like, climb.
like no they can't like climb trees or like live in trees like their natural environment is like in the water

Can all red eard slider turtles swim?

my red eard slider turtle stays at the bothom of the tank and im afride it might drown so i put a little bit of water but the water is over the turtle. her neck can come up to get air when shes on the bottom of the tank.
Answers:
yes all aquatic turtles can swim. they love to. dont be afraid to put a lot more water in your tank than that. the turtle will come up for air when it needs to. they can hold their breath for quite some time.maybe your turt is nervous around you so you dont always see her surface? that is possible...and as others have said do make sure you have a basking area for her to come out completely of the water with the proper lighting above it.
All turtles can swim. It's best when you put something in their tank so that they can climb out when they want but it is not necessary for them to breathe.
All turtles can swim. They do not drown.
But they are happy to get out of the water once in while.
Best to put a rock in the tank higher than the water level, so the turtle can perch on it once in a while.
DON'T WORRY! they are made to swim and can hold their breath for hours.
yes ALL turtles are born knowing how to swim
Course they all can! my RES wouldnt swim at first and would just sit on the bottom of the tank, but after a while once they are used to it they swim around, but if they dont start swimming means the water temp is either too high or low

Can a snake have fangs and not be venomous?

Wisconsin has 2 venomous snakes. Found snake with fangs, but not listed as venomous snake-brown, yellow belly, black markings on back, flares cheeks when scared like adder, two feet long, plays dead.
Answers:
No, not all snakes are venomous if they have fangs. Venomous fangs are a two-in-one deal, where just a snake with non-venomous fangs can just use it a weapon without poisoning. If the snake you found isn't listed as venomous, I'm sure it isn't. You probably should steer away from the fangs though just in case.
There are non venomous snakes and venomous snakes and they both bite
pretty much all snakes i am aware of have fangs or teeth of some sort. and yes there are some snakes without venom including a ball python
You have a hognose snake which is slightly venomous, they're rear fanged so it has to chew to inject the venom. And if it does bite you won't be hurt, your hand will just swell up for a couple days. might be worse if your allergic. that's why it's not listed as venomous, it cant really hurt you. As for your question...
Snakes can have fangs that are not hollow like a venomous ones. They are used to grab prey and for defense.

Can a snake climb up a glass?

Answers:
I was wondering the same thing yesterday because when I was younger I saw a snake climbing up the back door window without holding on to anything.
short distance yes
yes yes they can
yes but not like a bug or fly once it gets to high and doesn't have enough support on the ground it will come back down
Technically, no.
They can LEAN against the glass and climb out that way. But they're not like some bug or something that can stick to the side. Being muscular animals, they can climb very well.
My three and a half ft ball python can climb things up to three ft high! Just leans against the thing and climb climb climbs! ^.^ very cool
It is physically impossible if the glass is vertical, but they can lean on it and appear to be starting to climb but then slide sideways back down. They can't get a good grip. A fly or gecko has sticky pads on the bottom of their feet that allow them to climb, but snakes don't.
No the appear to be climbing up the glass, but they are leaning on it.
Krstl
Not really--they might lean into the corner of a glass tank while pushing themselves up, and mine sometimes crawl up the middle of one of the tank walls, but they usually fall over once they get so far up. They can't just slither up a vertical piece of glass to escape, if that's what you're asking, although they are very strong and if they're long enough, can easily push up while leaning on the glass and get out of an enclosure without a secure lid.
Not actually climb up the glass, but they will anchor themselves with their tails and extend their upper body up the glass, and if they go too far, they get top heavy and fall. My ball python does this all the time in his tank trying to find a way out...lol.

Can a red eared slider turtle crossbreed with a map or cooter turtle?

Answers:
I guess, but unlikely. They usually mate with their own kind.
I have never heard of this being possible. From what I've read before, they have to be the same species of turtle to produce any babies. I've owned several kinds of water turtles in the past 11 years, and I've never had this happen. I even have a Florida Red Belly turtle who has always been in love with my large Yellow Belly. Always flirts with her and follows her around...:) But I've never seen them actually mate or have her produce any fertile eggs.
no and try not to
Nope
I dont think so unless they are REALLY into each other , RES only breed with their own kind , but heck you can try!
good luck

Can a red eared slider eat guppies?

i have these guppies that i HAVE to get rid of and my friend has these red eared sliders and he says we should try feeding the guppies to the turtle, but can they even eat those?
Answers:
If the guppies are smaller than the turtle's head, he will probably eat them. I feed my turtle small guppies all the time. It can be kind of fun to watch them "hunt."
Give it a try. The worst that can happen is that the turtle won't eat them, and they'll be a nice decoration in the tank.
heck no!
My friend's turtle can eat them, but chooses not to, and now there's a million of them. I'm not sure what kind he is though, but he lives mainly in the water.
just look red eared slider diet on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/red-eared_s...
yes almost all types of fish
they can but i don't know if they will depends on the size of the turtle and guppie

Can a non poisonous snake be venomous if it eats a poisonous snake with venom?

Example...A black snake kills and eats a rattlesnake. That Black snake bites someone. Could the person that was bit be in danger of having venom it their body?
Answers:
No and thats almost impossible for that to happen. Most likely the poisonous snake would bite the harmless one and it would be dead before the dangerous one gets killed
I would say no. While it is possible that some venom was on the teeth of the black snake, there's probably only a little amount if any. Snakes usually eat their prey head first, that would mean that the entire time the one snake is downing the other, it's teeth are being scraped by the scales and most probably any residual venom..if any, would be removed. For clarification, the use of venomous when referring to snakes is correct. They are not poisonous. Things like frogs, etc. are poisonous. Those types of animals excrete poison onto the skin, they don't inject it.
No, a rattelsnake's venom is injected into the victim thru fangs which act like hypodermic needles. Non-venomus snakes do not kill hier prey in such a way but just grab it and swallow or constrict or sqeeze their prey. The rattelsnake venom swallowed by he black sbake would be destroyed in the digestive tract of the black snake.
No. Non -poisonous snakes are called that for a reason, no venom sacks or the type of fangs/teeth needed to inject its prey with venom. In this example, the rattle snake and its venom would be contained in the black snakes digestive tract and would be delt with by the snakes natural bodily functions/defense mechanisms. By the way, some non-poisonous snakes do eat poisonous snakes such as bull snakes eating rattlesnakes.
No they can't. The poison in the other snake won't turn your snake venomous.

Can a Melanististic leopard male gecko, mate with a tangerine leopard gecko to fertilize its eggs succesfully?

I' had 4our but they're all infertile.
Answers:
They can mate and fertilize eggs in general. The problem may lie with the individuals involved. Male and Female both need to be old enough (18 months at least) but not too old and in good breeding condition (ie. good fat reserves esp. for the female). The first couple clutches a female lays can sometimes be infertile.
After that you need to make sure your set up is good (store bought incubators are best, homemades can be made but take a little more tinkering with). Any mistake in temperature or in transportin the eggs (don't move them around, or tilt them in anyway, this will kill them) can cause an otherwise viable egg to die. Also, never give up on an egg untill it starts to smell or deflates. I've had viable eggs grow mold and still hatch out wee ones.
www.kingsnake.com has a great forum to ask questions.
But why would you want to breed a melanistic to a tangerine. Both are highly line bred to get those individual colours. By mixing them you will be dilluting the gene pool and will likely end up with bland normal type geckos. There is nothing wrong with normal types, I love my girls, but with so many different morphs why not just get another tangerine or melanistic and go from there. If you are intending on selling them you'll get more for them.
I am not overly familiar with Leopard Geckos, but I can tell you from my experiences with snakes:
Melanistic and Tangerine are skin pigmentations. Although they are mutations, they are very minor genetic alterations that do not link to infertility. However, there are often other health issues which interfere with reproductin, due to heavy inbreeding used to get the recesive genetic traits.
It is very likely that only one in four eggs would survive, and that's assuming they do get fertilized.
If you are well researched about proper Leopard Gecko mating and nesting procedures, then you may have to try several broods before getting viable eggs. If you are not familiar with such practices, then you may be asking the wrong question at this time =)
Good luck!
color has nothing to do with fertility, age does though, a female can be too young, and males get too old, and there sperm dosent work anymore, your geckos probably werent unfirtile, just too young to breed *sucessfully. they can still breed, but it dosent mean much.

Can a fire belly toad eat another fire belly toad?

Twice it happened to which one of the pair turn out missing. My niece has a pair of toads and a month later one came out missing. Her tank is sealed so she looked inside the filter but nothing and she cleaned out her tank, still nothing. Looked around the area where her tank was sitting..looked all over her bedroom and no signs of the toad. Three weeks ago she bought another one to keep the other one company.A week later its missing again...She figured she's only meant to have one but both missing toads remains a mystery. Would they eat their own kind? And no I doubt they turn into a prince.
Answers:
Yes. Is it the same one that is still there again?
He probably ate the other ones. Is she feeding them enough?
This happened to my Fiance. He has a pair and I went to feed them and clean them out, there was no way one could have escaped. I told him that it was missing and the only way was that the other one ate him ~~ even til this day he doubts me but a lot of people have said this is probably the case. Looks like he wants to live on his own!! Good luck!!
i would think they have a imune system in there own body for there own poison

Can a female leopard gecko and a male long tailed grass lizard be kept in the same cage?

its male and female or female and female
Answers:
most likely, your leopard gecko will eat the long tail, so....no
No.
They are of different habitats.
One is tropical(needing humid) and the other is desert(dry.)
Also when the gecko gets bigger it may pick on the other, if not killing or eating it.
Lizards arent social (have you ever seen a pack of lizards traveling around together )and these are two different species, one may eat the other. Not a good idea
OK sorry but this really isn't an answer (although I am interested in what answers come up.) I'm here to tell you that I reported that jerk "Its Me" four times already in 20 min.! and I hope that all the rest of you people do too. he is really starting to get on my nerves and he is lucky I can't contact him because I would give him a real piece of my mind GRRRRRRRRRR!!
hope you get the answer you were looking for! sorry.
No because they have different foods like temperature and other important needs.

Can a checkerd snake eat her own babies?

my snake had 4 babies today, can she eat them?and what am i suppose to give for food and can she have more babies and how many? and if i have to seperate her from there mom? thanks for your opinion and information.
Answers:
What you have is a Checkered Garder Snake, right? Its not likely that they will eat their babies, unless the baby is stillborn or sick, then maybe she will. If she is still in the birthing process, then yes, she may still have more babies. As few as 3 or as many as 50 may be born in a single litter. The babies are independent upon birth, abandoning the mother, so yes, you can separate them from the mother. Garder snakes are non-venomous, so therefore their offsprings (babies) are also non-venomous. The usual diet of garder snakes are slugs, earthworms, insects, leeches, lizards, amphibians, birds, fish, and rodents. As for feeding the babies, you can start out with slugs, earthworms, etc., any of the above that are small, or pinky mice. As for sexing them, they will have to be probed.
Theoretically, she can; I don't know how likely it is that she would, however. For food, try mice unless someone tells you different.

Can a black rat snake breed with a red-rat snake(corn snake)?

Answers:
yes. they are different sub classifications of the same species.
i dont see why not they are the same corn snake
They are two DIFFERENT species, but they might hybridize.
The question is, why would you want to?
you can breed most colubrids together. you can breed kingsnakes and cornsnakes together... bull snakes and cornsnakes together... bull snakes and kingsnakes together..
yes they can
I've breed A Deckerts Rat Snake (Elaphe Obsoleta Deckertey) with an Amelanistic Corn Snake (Elaphe Guttata Guttata)
Corn Snakes have also been breed with many of the King Snakes
My website
NO. Rats and corns wont mix. You'll lose one to the other if U do that., If however they are both definitely rat snakes then yes. They just both have to be from the same region like they both have to be either california kings or both florida kings but you cant mix the two.

Can a 2 year old female lay 32 eggs in three weeks after she is posatively bread with a male?

My 2 year old female laid 32 eggs this morning after being bread 3 weeks ago. when i first bread her she was in good shape but after she was bread she got fat fast. all the eggs look good but they are a little bit smaller then my other females eggs that had 23 in the first cluch. they are nice and firm with nice solid shells and good coloring on the inside but only about a inch long where the other females eggs that 32 in about 1 1/2 inchs long and thay are deffenently good eggs and baby growing good.

first what type of reptile are we talking about, second it seams whatever it is can and did wether common or not would depend on the speciec.. you sound happy about it so good luck and have fun Reptiles rock.. I know in many large egg laying animals it is this way because it ups the chances for survival of the species. Because a few will die naturally and prey get many others and many species keep there natural ways even in captivity expecially if they are kep in a natural and non stressfull manner
Ummmmm what kind of critter is this???/?
a female what? can't answer this.
what kind of animal is this? What are you going to do with all of the babies that hatch?
Your female? You mean your child? I don't think this is funny. We need reptile names.
By the time line you have provided, I am going to guess you are talking about a bearded dragon? They can lay eggs 3 weeks after being bred, and there is a good chance they are fertile. They are smaller than your other female's eggs because she laid more. Some will lay a low number of large eggs, others will lay a large number of smaller eggs. It also depends on the size of the females who laid them.
Make sure you have you male seperated, as they will breed again shortly after laying and it will wear your female out.

CALIFORNIA kingsnake?

should i get one?
tell me about them.
could i walk around with it on my neck
(no, im not buying it for show, i like holding snakes)
are they nice?
Answers:
You already asked this question...
they stink
observations from the site:
"This snake did not appear very physically active. It did not move much. I noticed how shiny the skin appeared and the small head size relative to the body. The kingsnake is a very docile reptile and it is very easy to keep it in captivity. Due to this fact these snakes are frequently bred and sold to the public. There have been some cases where some Kingsnakes have been captured from the wild and sold to consumers. I disagree with this act simply because wild animals that are used to their natural habitat and freedom should not be captured and caged. "
you could try but with any other snake you should handle with care one day it can snap and land one on your neck.
Don't you know?
No, you should not because you haven't a clue and obviously have no interest in making the effort or doing the work to find out.
Let a wild animal stay out in the wild. Don't encourage the breeding of such by creating a market for them. Captivity is not nice for a wild creature.
Why should WE "tell you about them." This is YOUR homework! You have to make the effort to educate yourself about them. It's obvious you are not really interested in doing it properly or responsibly.
Domestic animals require enough care. Are you financially able and responsible enough to do the right thing and take a snake to a vet? Can you afford to re-create another environment in your home? What about electricity costs for heat and/or light? Will you make the effort to read up about them and "do your homework" before you run out and make this spur-of-the-moment purchase? (obviously not) Remember, this is a lifetime commitment. What if you: go off to college, get a new job, lose the job you have now, get married, have a baby, need to work a second job, have a roommate that objects, have other pets that would create a problem, the snake has babies, etc. Have you thought this fully through? (I doubt it.) We don't want to read about you coming onto Answers asking for home remedies because something is wrong with the snake and you are too cheap to take him/her to the vet, thus the snake suffers. If you don't know your own mind and have to ask strangers about what to do, then you are obviously not ready.
They usually grow between four to six feet which at this point they are considered fully grown. live from 15 to 20 years in captivity but have been known to live longer. most commonly black and white banded, however yellow bands are recorded in some subspecies, with a checkered stomach and black eyes. Kingsnakes usually shed 4 to 6 times a year and are considered "harmless". Should you get one? Honestly I think a cornsnake is a better "first" snake. Can you walk with it around your neck? You can walk with any snake around your neck as long as you AND the snake are comfortable with it. My husband walks with his milks, corns, boa's and pythons around his neck. Of course the milks and corns are quicker when they move but you've always got to be aware of what your snake is doing. Kingsnakes like milksnakes "musk" when frightened, excited or agitate. And if you've ever been "musked" by a snake I doubt you'd want to run out and purchase one. My husband has 2 milk snakes both musk every time he picks them up, when THEY are done being handled and so forth and it STINKS I can not stand it therefore I chose not to even associate myself with musking snakes.
However I strongly encourage you to do your own research about this snake or any other you wish to own. Would be like someone asking about Pitbulls and people answering that only had good things and good experiences with them. Then you buy one and it rips your head off.
Your snake wont have babies unless its mated. However females produce eggs during mating season. If those eggs are not ferterlized they are reabsorbed into the body. IF they are not reabsorbed they become "egg bound". I read your edit you said you were 14. Its best your parents also be comfortable with the pet you choose they are a lifetime investment and although most snakes only eat once a week someone still has to buy the food and drive to the store. I wish you the best
BTW we have a 14yr old terminally ill daughter a 14 month old son, Im raising my 17 yr old and 16yr old nephews as well as a 7 yr old SD. We have 3 dogs, several birds and several horses so having other animals and kids in the home does not always interfer with the care someone can give an animal doesnt interfer with how we care for them. As for if you have a room mate that objects when your older because these animals do live a long time, find one that wont object its that simple..
Kingsnakes make excellent pets, but a bit squirmy to have around your neck, if you want something like that look more at the ball pythons.and no matter which one you pick make sure to do some research and find out what kind of care it will require..you can find caresheets for most types of snakes online..
I work at a petstore. They tend to be one of the more vicous snakes that we have. They pretend to act like rattle snakes and shakes their tails(though no sound) and strike. You have to makes sure you ask whoever you buy it from to let you handle it first. They tend to also get a little meaner when they are hungry.
Makes sure you get one that is captive bred if you plan to handle it
As for food they eat mice. For captive breed frozen is usually safer. They are more expensive that way.
Besides that they are like most deset snakes. Keep warm, heating light, aspen bedding, etc etc

there is even a discussion area so u can talk to people abt your questions
good luck
King snakes are less likely than other popular snakes to attack you, since their primary diet is snakes and tiny creatures which require minimal to no constricting.
If you're looking for something that will return affection, get an iguana if you must have a reptile. Snakes are wild predators that can't truly be domesticated.
well yes they usually are very nice u need to let it get used 2 u and were its at then u should be able 2 hqndle him a little and asa he trust u u will b able to do it more often and i odnt think that it will try 2 escape if i has a good pretty big cage it might on the first day or 2 but thats be cause he is not used to it so dont be worryede so over all yes i think if thats the pet u want than u should get i hope this helps o and yes it dose sorta depend on the snake in general u just have to get him to like u ok bi
yes get one i have one and they are sooooooooo much fun even tho they eat mice it is soooooo much fun to watch them eat that mouse. the king snakes are so nice and very pretty.and get a medium-large aquarium with a screen lid that fit perfectly so that it doesn't escape, they never escape unless you forget to feed it's mouse once a week. have fun with your snake.

Paper is one of the best things you can use in the vivarium. But to go out and get just green paper lol to much messing about.
Don鈥檛 use carpet it stinks and it鈥檚 the most unhygienic thing you can use. Would you like to pee in your bed and sleep in it?
Its sounds like you鈥檙e trying to get a little business going there lol. Give it a go but it would be better to use corrugated cardboard sheets lol green of coerce. Something along the lines in the pics on this website. Oh that鈥檚 拢50 for the business advices lol

just by reptile carpet .its cheaper at the long run....just rinse it .
I think you're best off getting a green doormat and cutting it to size
That's a pretty good idea for people who use newspaper, personally I prefer to use sand because it's more realistic to their natural environment, but newspaper is very easy to clean.

Burmese python?

how could i get a burmese python to be more tame even when she gets to be large
and if she does start to constict me how do i get her off me without be coming snake food?
Answers:
handle it as much as possible now while it is young, only thing you can do to "tame" it, but you need to realize that these are giant constrictors and any snake from a garter to an anaconda can have a bad day and turn for no reason. THere is always that danger, the general rule is that you need a person per every 6 foot of snake when it comes to handling.
as far as being constricted by a large snake, you start at the tail to unwind, if you can't get it unwinded due to strength or the way you are constricted, grab the tail just below the vent and bend it sharply upwards and break the tail. This sounds extreme, but in a life or death situation you do what you gotta do. Keeping a knife on hand is good practice, but whether you are able to use it or not, depends on how it all plays out. Keep rubbing alcohol on hand, snakes cannot stand it and it may cause the snake to let go, also submerge it in cold water if possible, this works well it you got a bite and the snake won't let go, stick it's head underwater, they'll let go or drown.
Lastyly remember that if it is attacking you do everything you can to get it to release, fighting it by sheer strength alone will not work, no one can match their power, use your brain, go for the eyes, head, etc do whatever you can to get it to release.
You best defense is to know your snake, to watch it's moves and learn its personality, if it is acting strange, put it away, but never let your guard down fully.
Frequent handling is your best bet for taming it.
When it is large, you should have an assistant help you when it needs to be removed from the cage. If it DOES start to constrict you, you should unwind it, starting with the tail. A difficult maneuver when you're suffocating.
Some people keep a knife handy, thinking that they'll cut off the snakes head. I don't think that would work.
My best advise is to tell you that a Burmese python is a poor choice for a beginner.
listen to charlie d -- it is not a good beginner snake, will require a lot of care and feeding will be expensive -- it is a good rule of thumb to never attempt to handle, or put yourself in a position to get bit/constricted by any snake over 6 feet when you are not accompanied by another person who is accustomed to handling large boids -- always unrap from the tail as trying from the head is a waste of time - the snake will not try to eat you but if it is scared its natural instinct is to hold on tighter -- if it bites because it mistook you for prey it will wrap and not let go with its teeth -- i keep a bottle of alcohol handy that can be dabbed around the animals mouth -- he will let go because the alcohol burns his mouth -- i use drinking alcohol because it is less toxic to the animal -- and after the ordeal i am sure i will want a drink lol --- cold or hot water will work also -- but the alcohol is east to keep withing reach -- most fatalities occur when the handler is alone trying to feed the animal or holding it and something spooks it - believe me you are not going to get this animal off by yourself - you will die if it is anywhere near your head and chest because you will not be able to breath. daily handling of any snake for short periods - even ten minutes a day - gets them accustomed to you, you have to start when they are babies, the older they are the more work it is to calm them down. check out ball pythons!
they dont consterict ppl uness they hav a reason ...they bite hold then constrict then u worrie ...poor cold water down her throut and to get her more tame ...hold her mor often
!_!hope this helps!_!
I would advise against purchasing one. They are not beginner snakes, and extremely costly, and can be lethal. Additionally, several states are in the process of formulating laws making their ownership illegal.
There's no way to make CERTAIN a snake will be tame. They are---and always will be---a wild animal. That's a fact all snake owners must come to terms with.
Secondly, if the snake is over six ft, you should NOT handle it or let it out unless there is another person present. (this is a memo all those people that get killed by their snakes didn't get)
I own a young corn snake and a three yr old ball python. The python (Kaa) is 3 1/2 ft long. Occasionally he'll coil a bit too tight or will hold onto something we don't want him to. A lot of people make the mistake of grabbing at the snake from their middle or behind the head. -shakes head- Will only make it hold on tighter. Pull it from the tail end. If you can't get it to loosen its grip, tickle/run your fingers over its underside. They HATE that. It makes them squirm and loosen up a bit.
All in all, unless it's trying to bite you or something, NEVER go for the head. ^.^; Then you're just asking for it!
Burmese pythons are one of the largest snakes in the python family. They reach anywhere between 20-25 feet in length and can weight 100s of pounds. If you have one as a baby, then you may be able to tame it somewhat where it won't be so bad as an adult. Once an adult, it is best to have at least 3 people to help handle and hold the snake. If she starts to constrict you, you would need those people to help get her off. They will need to first get her by the tail, and then start to unwind her from your body (NOT by the head).
a burmese is not a good beginner snake they grow really fast and eat alot. get a smaller snake first and work your way up. i use hot water to get the snakes to let go if they constrict me. had an 11 foot 70 pound burm constrict my leg once was not fun. listen to everyones advise and wait to get a burmese
i understand that you are probably really gungho on getting a huge snake, although like the others said, large snakes are not very good beginner snakes. for instance, i work in a reptile zoo, we have between 25 and 50 burms at any given time.and they are ALL given to us by ppl who realize they not not make the best of pets. although burms have never been documented to eat ppl, they have killed them, most often its when they are captive animals who kill the owner. and yes you are supposed to start by the tail if a snake is to constrict, but that generally only works with smaller snakes, think of it that is the only way a snake has to subdue its prey...if the prey still has a limb free, well snakes would eat a lot less often. basically it would bite and faster than you could realize what is happening, your arms will be pinned against our body. also snakes like burms and retics tend to be a little more, lets say 'nippy' then a red tailed boa (more commonly known as a boa constrictor). a burmese python can get up to 24 ft, and about 200 pounds (the females get larger). and trust me try to handle a large burm is NOT easy and should definitly not be done alone. if you are still absolutly stuck on the idea of getting a large snake, i would suggest gettin a boa constictor. although my ultimate suggestion would be to get a smaller snake for awhile, to see if the idea wears off (a large snake is VERY hard to get rid of) and if you still like caring for a snake, then you can easily sell something like a ball python or corn snake to a pet store or to any other person interested. furthermore, reptile vets are very expensive, so please take into consideration what large responsibility you are getting yourself into. i dont mean to sound negative, but, like i said, i work in a reptile zoo, and work with these snakes all the time, but i wouldnt consider getting one myself, let alone be allowed to because of the bylaws in many areas. well i definitly wish you good luck and hope you make the right decision. ----PS. do you really want large amounts of rats or a few rabbits in your freezer?

Yes, since frogs are amphibians, they absorb moisture through there skin. In fact, frogs are good environmental indicators for presence of toxins.
Sounds like your frog might have a hemhoroid. Talk to your vet!

Is it a male or female,I'm not that knowledgeable on frogs.it could be ready to lay eggs!?.
regular bullfrogs aren't traditionally kept as pets. nonetheless i would advise you seek a professionals opinion regarding this 'bubble.' Either go see a vet that is traversed in herp care or call a petstore that has reptile specialists.

Brown snake with one orange circle right around his head?

this was a brown snake about 10 inches long, kinda skinny, and he had one orange stripe right around his neck/head. what kind of snake was it? should i be afraid?
Answers:
Ringneck not poisonous
Most likely it is a ring-necked snake (Diadophis punctatus). Also, the ringnecks will have a brightly colored belly. If this is the case, they are 100% harmless. www.snakesofarkansas.com has a section with pictures that you can use to compare. With a little respect, you shouldn't fear any snakes. Keep your eyes out, they are amazing creatures.
it was a ringneck snake, they are completly harmless, and actually very gental, they hardly ever bite, and are alot of fun to play with

Breeding turtles?

how old do the turtles have to be to breed, and what kind of surface should i provide for the turtles to bury the eggs. then when the eggs are layed do i have to buy an incubator or can i make something at home?
Answers:
Age totally depends on the species of turtles. Are they aquatic or terrestrial? You can create an egg box to place in with the turtles. This is just a box with a hole big enough for her to crawl through, with vermiculite or other similar substrate in the box. Be careful when buying an incubator, many have very large temperature gradient, I would suggest making your own. Check kingsnake.com for some excellent blueprints on incubators.
look at this if u want info
http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=a0ogkyw1bsrghz...
The females need to be around 4-5 years old and the males 3-4 years old. Make sure that you have a nest like place where the female is able to lay her eggs.

Breeding patterns for leos?

Are there any special breeding patterns for leos and i.e: regular leos and regular leos will give regular leo offspring. If you know please tell me (and when are the usual breeding season for leopard geckos?)
Answers:
try goin to
reptiles r us for advice
www.reptilesrus.ca
Leopard gecko genetics are extremely complicated, there are dozens of color phases, some dominant, some co-dominant, some recessive... it takes years of studying and trial and error breeding to figure that out. That's what makes color phases so valuable. Breeding season runs March-September, roughly. I hope you know however that it's extremely difficult to breed Leos successfully. The geckos must be over 2 years old, in good body weight, and most of them prefer to be cooled over the winter or else they won't breed. Even if you get them to lay eggs, you have to buy a professional incubator to maintain them at the proper temperatures, and substrate to keep them humid but not wet or else they'll mold. Your questions make it sound like you're just going to buy a bunch of geckos and try this, and I urge you not to. Female leos very often die after their first clutch if they haven't been prepared properly for it, and the eggs are very difficult to get through to hatching. It's not for amateurs.

Breeding geckos?

rite. tell me everyhitng i need to know about breeding leopard geckos.
if i wanted to bree dthem, what would i do to start??
Answers:
... start with a male and a female in the same cage... Cool the temps off a little bit... down in the mid 80's usually works nice... Place a box in their container with damp moss or damp soil so that the female will have something to lay her eggs in. Leave them alone for a couple of weeks other than the usual feeding/cleaning of their cage, and in a couple of weeks there will probably be some eggs in the box (or in the corner of the cage... sometimes they pick some of the most RANDOM places to lay their eggs) The males will usually show some signs of aggression during the couple of weeks... Males usually bite the females on the back of the neck when they are breeding... don't worry... it's normal...
Once their have been eggs layed, you have to incubate them. The best way that I have learned to do this is to put the box with the eggs in it into another tank or a sweater box with a heat lamp above it... making sure that the temps are either in the mid. to high 80's or higher. (Sexing the eggs is done by the temperature in which they are incubated... for example, if you want male leopards, you should set the temps to aroun 88-90. females about 80-82, and a mixture of males and females at about 84-86. Keep the moss/substrate damp, but don't soak it! Or you can cause the eggs to go bad! After a couple of weeks, you'll have baby leopards!
put on some isaac hayes and marvin gaye and put those two lizards in a room together- bom chicka wow wow
a male and a female in a tank is a good start, lol
when female is due for laying, put in a box filled with damn sand within which she can lay her eggs, you then remove the eggs and artificially incubate them. getting them to breed is the EASY bit, the hard bit in the incubation!
what type of geckos?
below is just for leopards

Leopard geckos are relatively easy to breed and when in prime condition the females can produce many clutches of eggs during one breeding season. Most leopard gecko owners will at some point consider breeding their leopard geckos. Incubating and hatching baby leopard geckos is very rewarding and exciting, however, before you decide to breed your leopard geckos you should carefully consider, and be able to answer yes to, all of the following questions.

are the male and female(s) healthy and of the appropriate age and condition (see box opposite)
are you confident enough with the behaviour and character of your leopard geckos that should breeding cause any problems you would be able to spot any behaviour/symptoms that are indicative of problems
are you able to provide the requirements (extra housing, food, etc) for the hatchlings (see hatchling caresheet- to be added soon)
are you able to devote additional time to caring for the hatchlings
do you have an appropriate incubator
are you able to find homes for all the babies (in top condition, one female could produce up to 20 eggs in one season)
PREBREEDING CONDITION
Breeding takes more of a toll on the female, therefore prior to breeding her you should ensure that she:

is 100% healthy
is a minimum age of 1 year
is a minimum weight of 50g*
has a nice plump tail
Males can breed from around 9 months. They should obviously be in perfect health, to avoid passing disease to the female.

*Although I have recommended 50g as a minimum weight for the female to be before breeding, this is just a guide. In my opinion it is a better idea to wait until they have reached their full adult length. Some females get quite large, 9 inches and 80+g, and it is probably not a good idea to breed such a female when she's only 50g, that's only half her adult size. The best method is to weigh/measure your leos monthly or more, and once you're sure your leo is reaching its adult size/weight (i.e. when the weight and length gain starts to significantly slow) then you can consider breeding her.

Obviously before you breed your leopard geckos you will have established that you do have a pair of leopard geckos.

Brazilian rainbow boa?

my uncles snake is pregnant ive tried looking for a site for the new borns
what they eat, humidity requirments ect ect
any help for those snake lovers?
Answers:
well boas usaly eat rats and mice. um thats what i feed my red tail. um the humidty shoudl be high. and they should have a hetaing pad underneath the tank.
The babies will be a little more fragile than the adults, tolerating less variations from their ideal conditions. If kept identically to the adults, you should experience few problems. Many species of snake can be hard to get started on food. Remember you shouldn't feed until after their first shed, up to that point they will subsist on retained nutrients from their gestation. After their first shed, you should try to feed them small pink mice. If they are reluctant to eat, you may try scenting the mouse with a lizard, or toad(rub the mouse on the actual animal to make it smell like the preferred prey.) If after a couple of weeks they still refuse to eat you may need to buy an anole, or a house gecko to feed them. So to recap:
1) Try feeding unscented pink mice
2) Try feeding scented pink mice
3) Try feeding cold-blooded prey
Good Luck with the young'uns!
This came from the webite below. There's much more info on the site.
Baby Brazilian Rainbows are born in litters of two to thirty five. A typical litter contains twelve to twenty five babies. The babies are usually fifteen to twenty inches long and are usually born looking robust and healthy. Most specimens start out striking at anything that moves but can be tamed with regular calm handling. They need to be kept at temperatures near 80 degrees and in high humidity. Temperatures above 85 degrees can cause fatalities in Brazilian Rainbows. Baby Brazilian Rainbows require humidity above 70 percent. They will do well kept individually in plastic shoeboxes until they are about 24 inches long and can then be moved into larger plastic storage containers or box type cages. They should not be kept in fish tanks or similar cages as the large screened area will allow too much humidity to escape from the cage. As adults they will usually drink large amounts of water and will not require nearly as high relative humidity in their cages. Babies should be fed on a schedule of from once every four days to once a week. Most of them will continue to feed even when they are opaque prior to shedding. Many people make the mistake of feeding pinky mice to baby Brazilian Rainbow Boas. If you have an unlimited source of pinky mice then go ahead and feed them to baby Brazilian Rainbows but be prepared to feed lots of them at each feeding. These snakes are born large enough to take hopper mice as their first meal. Many of mine have done well starting out on rat pinkies. A mouse pinky will make a very small lump in a baby Brazilian Rainbow and be digested down so that the lump is no longer externally visible within 24 hours. Brazilian Rainbows will grow rapidly on one or two appropriately sized mice a week.
Will your uncle be selling the babies? If so, I'm interested.

Box Turtles?

I'm taking a box turtle off of the hands of a friend that keeps it in a 5 gal tank full of water.
What do I need to know to take care of him?
What is the ideal type of indoor housing?
Does he need a heat rock or lamp?
What should I use to cover the floor in his cage?
Any information will help since I have never owned any type of reptile. Thank you!
Answers:
He keeps the box turtle in water!? box turtles are terrestrial, they live on land not in the water. Put it in a DRY container, you can use newspaper or dirt to line the cage, it will need a water dish large enough to get into and a heat lamp, possibly a heat pad or rock, a hide box. Feed it meat, fruit, and vegetables. They love watermelon, tomatoes, earthworms, and slugs.
Box Turtle are a resilient creature. They can thrive in the worst of conditions. In captivity they like moisture, but also need dry land and heat, particularly radiant or light produced heat. Ever drive by a pond on a spring day and seen hundreds of turtles on logs or rocks all seemingly looking in the same direction - towards the sun? These are box turtles.
Flooring should be a rock bed or clay bed, with plenty of vegetation, as this is a large part of their diet. Check with your local pet store for more details.
ok first and foremost...box turtles DO NOT live in water...they are LAND reptiles, not aquatic. next, u need to go to the store and get a book on box turtles...they shouldnt b no more than like $10 unless u get the thick book...i would just go get the cheapest, but most descriptive one u can find...they arent that hard to care for...they sell food in the pet shop for them and its inexpensive. i would just use like the reptile bark or moss that they sell in a pet shop or even reptile cage carpet...the carpet would be easier to clean. and yes definately get a heat lamp...theyre not that expensive either...a high wattage flood light or a black light will work fine...and b less expensive. be sure u get a dome from lowes or home depot or somewhere to cover the light so u dont have to worry about being blinded while ur sleeping if its in ur room. ur best bet, get a black light for night and white light for the daytime. and get a bigger aquarium...like 20 gallon LONG...sometimes u can find aquarium kits for reptiles with stuff in it...u just wouldnt need the heat rock but it never hurts to keep one handy...well good luck and if u need any more info then just email me at mrsturner2u@yahoo.com
First, I would get a positive ID on the turtle. Boxies don't live in water, so this may be a different type of turtle with the wrong name.
Try this link: http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/world_o...
Box turtles do NOT live in water! If its been kept in a 5 gallon tank in water, I'm surprised it is still alive and doesn't have severe illness. It needs a very large tank, like a 75 gallon. It needs a basking heat lamp and a UVB light. It needs a fresh salad and protein in the form of insects and other foods daily. It needs a shallow pool to drink and soak in if it wants to. Please go to this link and read everything!!
http://boxturtlesite.info/bxbook.html...
First and most IMPORTANT BOX TURTLES DO NOT LIVE IN WATER! Now a box turtle should be put in a dry tank. Depending on how big he is i would say a 30 to 50 gallon tank should be fine for now. The cage should have a semi pond like area though. Small one though and not too deep. Again depending on how big he is 3 to 5 inches deep and about a foot long. The bottom of the tank can have a gently coat of moss, dirt, grass, hay, soft stuff like that that the turtle cant get hurt on easily. In the dirt you should plant some stuff, flowers, anything, I would suggest digging up some dandelion s and planting them. Simply cause they eat them too and gives them a more homey look. You can plant anything you want really. You should have a rock or so for climbing and basking. You can use the sun,uvb heating lamp, or pad heater which is placed right underneath the dirt.either would work fine. I would suggest the lamp or the sun depending on if your keeping him outside or in. Now you also need shelter. Just something that he can go into and be comfy. Last thing for the cage set up is remember KEEP IT MOIST. Now for what they eat. Again depending on how big he is ( the bigger the turtle the more they eat) A box turtle will eat fruits such as peaches,apples.bananas,nectari... also berries such as strawberries, blueberries. They will eat veggies. Now for the last of their diet they will eat worms, wax worms, meal worms, crickets, basically any insects. You should feed the box turtle anywhere from 3 to 5 times a week a small per portion of each to give it a strong healthy diet. Most of the items here can be bought at a super market or a pet store. To keep it healthy it should get about an hour or so of sunlight every day its fed to keep it easy. They don't mind if the food if its rotten so through any of your old spoiled foods into their cage. Don't over feed them if they haven't finished their meal from the last day don't keep feeding them. clean out their cage every 4 days as well. There is a higher chance of them getting sick if they are living in waste. Wash your hands after every pick up or interactive touches with turtles to prevent salmonella which most turtles don't carry but just in case. And last turtles are illegal without permits in N.J. So be careful. If you have any caging, sexing, health or any problems at all I would suggest going to illegal.com. Hope this helps and good luck. :)

Blood Pythons?

I was wondering about them. i know all blood's have diff. temperments and sizes. but im looking for one that meets my "wants" im looking for a snake(some type of blood) that is know for its "good" temperment. max. size, around 6' 1/2'' to 7' . i dont really have a color preference. and could deal with daily handling. i already have a female ball python and was just looking for another great pet snake. i know that they need a large encloser when adults and all and am ready to build it when needed. But for right now i need some help on the "type" of blood that would be good for me! any help is GREATLY thanked. P.S~ Just to let ya'll know that im ready to build a larger enough cage for a blood, heres an example...my ball python in an 4'1/2''x3'x2'1/2''..so i think i can handle a larger cage.
Answers:
A Blood Python would not be my first choice for a snake. They can be very unpredictable as Juveniles and as Adults. Babies can be very mild mannered but as they mature (Some) not necessarily all can really get more aggressive and less tolerant of being handled. I think it would just be pure luck to get one that remains totally calm.. Good Luck
you really don't want to deal with blood pythons they may have a great temperment when young but, they tend to get aggressive as they get older just a gene in them that turns them that way if you do get one however, i would go with a malaysian blood python
Blood pythons, no matter how often they are handled, have been known to be very temperamental, striking and biting. My advice would for you to go with another ball python, or a corn snake.

Bloated Beardie?

About 7 hours ago I fed my young Bearded Dragon small crickets... he managed to eat 17 of them. more than what he usually eats (which is about 12). Since then he's been relatively inactive... and appears to be bloated (though he could just be REALLY full). Has he eaten too much, or is something wrong?
I gave him a short bath tonight and he has just gone to bed.
Also at times, he appears to have dark circles under his eyes, is this part of their colouring or could it be a sign of something more sinister?!
(I'm probably a worry-wort...but I love him).

Blizzard leopard gecko colors change?

my leopard gecko colors chang from when he sleeps to when he is awake whent awake he is a whitish/grayish color wit pink and while sleeping is a blackish grayish color with whitish pink stripe down it's back
Answers:
it's in the blizzard stage and will probably change to a more stable color. (Mine went to a purple %26 high yellow...:-) You'll probably find the "at rest" color is close to what it will change towards. Not saying it won't be different, it will be. Look closely at the blackish color and you'll see it gradually get more purple/bluse...Usually. The pinks and purples come out when they get older.
