Beardie won't stop eating sand?

My female has had a problem with MBD because she was breeding too much and wasn't given any down time. We have since corrected the problem and have been giving her calcium and a multi vit (4 months now)...she was doing so much better and seemed to be back to her old active self in the last month, but then this morning I noticed that she had sand around her mouth so I washed it off but I noticed that she went right back and ate sand. I've taken her out and put news paper over the sand till I can get to the store in the morning to buy some repti carpet but she's clawing at the paper to get to the sand. I don't understand, she's been taking her supplements fine and she hasn't been gravid for 5 1/2 months now. Any insight would be great and much appreciated.

I have already sent you an email with my apology for spouting off. The best I can do now is pull my response to this question
put books under it or distract it with food or just take out the sand and replace it with bark chips
Get rid of the sand, cause it could impact her. You're using reptile specific calci-sand, correct? If so, you should take it out and put newspapers or repti carpet as the substrate, and make sure you have a bowl of calcium so she can lick that instead. She'll get used to the substrate eventually. Feed her more than usual because beardies tend to eat more when its warmer to stock up for the cold winter months. Good luck.
hi there
mbd is not from breeding too much .. it from a bad diet and not the proper uv and cal.and vid.'s this is what causes MBD in lizards ... and it also not reversible ... it shortens their life spanned .. as for the sand .. get rid of it .. even tho ppl say they are from the desert they live closer to the grassy edge more then on the sand ... sand causes impaction even in adults.. it's better to use non particle substrate like paper, reptcarpet or use aspen which is also a good choice .. place greens and fruits down so she has access to it all the time .. as well crickets and worms ... try to stay away from meal worms the hard exoskeleton can cause impaction and should be use only as a treat ... hope this helps
let him eat sand it has calceam in it aslo if he licks the sand he is marking his teratory
