Basking area?

im going to get a young RES turtle and wonder if anybody has tried the floating logs, and if, do they work well?
Answers:
I think that sarabrooke, though enthusiastic, is mildly confused about what you were asking. You were asking about the cork or lightweight plastic floating logs that usually have a bracket of some sort to clip or suction cup them to the side of your tank, not the highly dangerous, idiotically designed "Heat rocks" intended for terrestrial herps. I'm sure if she were to reread the question she would realize that you have no intention of putting something that horrifically wired into what basically amounts to a bucket of water.
Anyway:
Yes, they work wonderfully. Just make sure you get the appropriate size for your tank and make sure the basking light is a reasonable 10"-12" away from it, and viola, you have the perfect place for red eared sliders to bask, while still giving them plenty of swimming space. Good luck with your new turtle!
DO NOT USE THOSE HEATED ROCKS OR LOGS! THEY WILL BURN REPTILES. Reptiles can not regulate their own heat and often stay on those too long. The heat source must come from above-by light.
i don't use floating logs, use big rocks and heat the rock to 90deg
I just got a log from my backyard and they loved to climb on that and bask. Otherwise get a roch that is someway out of the water. Mine also really love to climb on the rocks that i have and bask!! I hoped this helped!
