Baby Boa Feeding?

How often should I feed my baby boa?
Answers:
Hi
It all depends on how quick you want it to grow. The more you feed it the faster it will grow but the quicker it grows the shorter the longevity (LIFE SPAN). The oldest boa recorded lived over 40 years and was only 6 foot in length.
Once every 5 days and as the snake grows gradually increase its food. A good size is 3 to 3.5 ft in one year, 5 to 5.5 ft by the end of its second and 7 to 8 ft by the end of its 3 year. The end of this third year is the end of its growth spurt and this is where its growth will dramatically slow down. This length is ideal for starting breeding your snake as female boas shouldn't be any smaller for breeding but if you don鈥檛 want to breed then you can grow it on a LOT SLOWER. Don鈥檛 winter your snake in these early years as its much easer to keep its growth constant.
Like I said it all depends on how quickly you want it to grow, sex, species ext. I hope I鈥檝e give you both ends of the spectrum as what is good for others may not be what you want. This is why you will find lots of literature on reptile鈥檚 contradicting.
Don't listen to darsow@sbcglobal.net if she was a breeder she would know that female boas should be this size for breeding and she would have pointed out both ends of the spectrum plus she would definitely know what longevity means or she wouldn鈥檛 have added extra on to her answer as I鈥檇 already pointed it out for you.
There鈥檚 more on keeping Boas on my web site
You need to feed babies more often than an adult . I feed every 4 days for the first 4 months then every 5 days for another 2 months . After that about every 6-7 days until about two years old . Then once every 7-10 days . Feeding two small meals more often is better than feeding large meals once a week . Feed two - three mice the size of the largest girth of your snake . Always feed thawed/frozen , never live .And do not handle her for 24 hours after feeding or she may regurgitate the meal . Heres a great web site with a Boa forum http://www.repticzone.com
If you feed a snake to much in an attempt to have a rapid growth rate ,one of two things will happen - either the snake will regurgitate the meal and then go off feed ( stop eating for you ) or it will grow rapidly but it will have a much shorter life span . Do not listen to everyone that answers your question . You can double check my answer at the web site that I gave . I know what I am talking about .
you should be feeding one prey item a little larger than the thickest part of the snake every 5-7 days for the first year. After the first year, you should feed every 7-10 days.
anything between every 5-7.
Sorry no information.
weekly
